Rush Limbaugh's Web Site

PROVO, UTAH - Rush Limbaugh, the outspoken conservative of radio and television fame, has announced that his No Boundaries Online Tie Collection (http://www.rushties.com) has been redesigned by a Utah Internet Marketing company to accommodate his latest Spring/Summer catalog, and is slated to reopen for business on April 18.

Direct Connect, Inc. (http://www.directcnct.com/direct_connect/dc.htm) designed the first release of the No Boundaries site last October, logging over $500,000 tie sales for Limbaugh. The new version of the site features more colorful and unique ties, with the capacity for consumers to purchase the ties online, as well as pocket squares and women's scarves. The newest feature of the site is its photo gallery, boasting pictures of members of the Green Bay Packers, each sporting a vibrant Limbaugh tie, and a Rush-faithful, shaking hands with President Clinton while wearing one of Limbaugh's ties. When Limbaugh originally announced on the air that his site was open for business in October, it was flooded by thousands of his radio and television following, receiving up to 2 million hits a day at one time.

The collection started when Limbaugh first began his television show, said Limbaugh. "When I began hosting my television show three years ago," Limbaugh said. "I wanted to stand out and make a powerful impression. So, I wore the most vibrant, colorful and memorable ties I could find."

With the help of Limbaugh's wife, Marta, a collection of these ties was born, as Marta began to design and create them with vivid colors. Today, the collection includes 75 neckties, scarves and pocket squares.

Jeff Barrett, managing director of Direct Connect, said the success of the site should be even greater with this new second edition.

"We expect to have even more traffic to the site because of the popularity of the site from the first time and from Rush's radio and TV announcements about it," Barrett said.

Marta has had direct input into the design of the site, Barrett said.

"Marta has been great to work with," Barrett said. "She understands the importance of the Internet and its potential in marketing."

NASH-B is an open subscription, moderated list consisting of commentary about and reviews of NASH BRIDGES, a new high-action television drama series starring Don Johnson, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Annette O'Toole, Serena Scott Thomas, Jeff Perry, Jaime Gomez and Jodi Lynn O'Keefe. Cheech Marin appears in a recurring role. The NASH-B List is distributed once weekly in DIGEST format.

Nash Bridges (Don Johnson) is a San Francisco Police Department Inspector. Episode themes center around chase scenes, bad guys, two ex-wives and Nash's 16-year-old daughter. The show is staged in and around San Francisco, California USA. It premiered on Friday, March 29, 1996 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The list contains opinion and information on the show, its episodes, plot lines, characters, dialogue, cinematography, etc. Subscribers to the list are invited to submit their own comments by return mail. InfiNet Expands Internationally

NORFOLK, Va. (April 17, 1996) -- InfiNet Co. is expanding into the international arena to help newspapers and other media outside the United States profit from the Internet. The company's first venture is in Portugal, where a Portuguese technology company is marketing InfiNet's products and services.

"We are seeing very strong interest from other countries in what InfiNet has to offer," said David Richards, president of the Norfolk-based Internet access and publishing business. "Newspapers in the U.K., Latin America and throughout Europe are just becoming interested in the Internet. They want a jump-start in the business, and they want to deal with a company that has newspaper interests at heart."

InfiNet is owned by three newspaper companies -- Gannett Inc., Knight-Ridder Inc., and Landmark Communications Inc. Gannett and Knight-Ridder are the two largest newspaper companies in the U.S. All three have international media interests as well.

"Internet users want a practical way to select news and commercial information", said Jorge Van Krieken, president of Portugalnet. "Newspaper editors are pragmatically concerned on implementing fast and profitable solutions to their readers. Infinet's business partnership with Portugalnet gives us the right tools and the indispensable know-how to accomplish the needs of newspapers editors and their potential Internet readers."

InfiNet's expansion into Portugal represents the company's first foray overseas, Richards said. He said the Portuguese venture will be little more than a "toe in the water" to determine how best to develop international partners. InfiNet has established a relationship with Portugalnet, based in Estoril, Portugal. Portugalnet will help Portuguese media clients establish a presence on the Internet's World Wide Web using various InfiNet publishing tools and products.

Richards said InfiNet has no plan at the moment to enter the Internet access business in Portugal. But that may not be the case in other countries, where access is scarce and lucrative, he added.

InfiNet's core business is Internet access, but it is rapidly developing other products and services for its estimated 45 newspaper clients. InfiNet has Internet points of presence in affiliation with newspapers in about 40 cities across the U.S. The company recently began selling a "publishing only" affiliation whereby newspapers place their content on InfiNet's state-of-the-art web-server network but do not participate in the local Internet access business.

Heading up the international effort for InfiNet is Gordon Borrell, vice president of corporate development.

"It's only natural that InfiNet extends its operation overseas," said Borrell. "The Internet is a medium that knows no geographical boundaries, and we have the unique ability to apply what we've learned to other media partners and businesses globally."

New Publisher Launching Three WebZines

SANTA ANA, CA (15 April 1996) -- The fast-changing world of the Internet and World Wide Web has generated much speculation about the future of publishing and journalism as more and more newspapers, magazines and even television shows and networks have moved to create their own presence on the Web. But the full potential of the WWW as a publishing venue has not been realized -- until now.

Pollux Publishing (http://pollux.com) is the first full-fledged publishing house of its kind to be native to the Web. While some publishers are selling subscriptions on-line to print publications or reproducing those publications in part or in full and others have created electronic-only publications, none compare to the scope of the Pollux effort, which will be available to the public on the WWW beginning 15 April 1996.

First and foremost, Pollux was born of the need to provide a safe -- and profitable -- haven for freelance writers in an age of electronic publishing and "all rights" contracts from old-line print publishers. Pollux seeks only on-line electronic rights (of limited duration) from its writers, all of whom are professional freelancers of international reputation in their fields of concentration. And Pollux shares the revenues from the sale of writers' work with the freelancers on a scale never before seen in any form of publishing.

The first three Pollux Webzines are indicative of both the breadth of coverage and the level of writing that will symbolize this new enterprise. CompuWeb will provide reviews of new hardware and software, in-depth analysis of major issues and trends and a generally entertaining, informative and often irreverent look at the world of personal and small office/home office (SOHO) computing. This is a consumer webzine covering both the IBM-compatible and Macintosh arenas, with possible occasional forays into Unix and other systems, as well.

It features: the UAW's award-winning Solidarity magazine; Action Alerts on pressing issues; facts from the union's Research Department; up-to-date news; a Guide to the Internet with six pages of links; and AMMO magazine, whose latest issue discusses family-care challenges. The site includes audio and is updated several times a week.

Designed for all workers to share what they have in common. It offers Q&A tips on workplace legal rights and health and safety. Its interactive features include: a humorous "Top Ten" list users can vote on and add to; workplace "Survival Tips;" a "Ridiculous Assignment of the Week;" and stories from workers in jobs from teacher to temp worker. It also gives consumer and workplace news.

When the sites were beta-tested with UAW members, they received hundreds of e-mail over the first two weeks, some of which can be found on the "E-mailbox" page of the site. "We are excited at the chance this gives us to communicate directly with the public about our union and about their rights as workers," said UAW President Stephen P. Yokich when he announced the site. "We intend to use every tool we can to reach out to a whole new generation of people who may not know much about us."
